Choosing a Reputable Plumber

Let's face it...no one likes calling in a plumber,  but sometimes you are left with no other choice. Where do you begin?  How can you be sure you are working with someone who is honest and knows what they are doing? Here are a few things you need to know before you choose a plumber for your job.

*Check to make sure that they have a plumbing license
The most basic rule is to be sure that they're licensed and carry full insurance that protects you and your property. Also, ask how long the company has been in business.

*Read the online reviews..
Check reputable websites such as the Better Business Bureau or Angie's List. Read the reviews in your local yellow pages or business referral sites, such as Tom Martino's Referral List. In today's age of social media, check to see if the business has a Facebook page or blog.

*Ask friends and neighbors.
Referrals are the lifeblood of many businesses, so if your neighbor has faith in a reputable plumber, that plumber or company has likely worked hard to earn that trust.

*Don't be afraid to get another estimate for the job, but make sure you are comparing apples with apples.
Finding a plumber who gives pricing for small jobs over the phone isn't necessarily the sign of a good plumber. Most reputable plumbers prefer to provide quotes only when they are in front of the job so they get it exactly and 100% right.

*Ask about their guarantees
Is the work guaranteed? Is it limited in any way? Is it written on your bid/quote?  Can they be contacted easily in case something goes wrong?

Above all, don't be afraid to ask questions. Reputable plumbing companies have nothing to hide and should be happy to answer your questions.
